At Cocopah Middle School we have a thorough and complete Safety plan in place. This is to provide our students with a safe and healthy environment for them to attend daily, where learning can occur without worry.
This year we have updated and revamped the entire safety plan. Each teacher has a red Emergency Folder in his or her classroom; complete with all information they will need during any type of emergency, where they have placed a copy of each of their class rosters. In the case of a fire, evacuation, lockdown or any security problem, the procedures to follow are listed. We are required by law to prepare for these types of emergencies by having drills for fire each month and lockdowns four times a year. We work in conjunction with the Scottsdale Police and Fire Departments in emergency situations.
In the case of an evacuation off campus, our students will walk to Blessed Sacrament Church or Sequoya Elementary School approximately two blocks away. If the situation calls for us to be further away, students will be bussed to Chaparral High School. Parental notification will be made through the APT phone tree and/or public notification through the Community Communication Office.
During a lockdown, students are kept in their classrooms and no one is allowed on or off campus until the lockdown is lifted. We ask for parental cooperation during a lockdown. Each classroom has received a supply of water in the event of a long-term lockdown. Information will be disbursed to parents and the community as soon as it is safe to do so.
Our goal at Cocopah is to insure the safety of all our students.
