From the Principal’s Desk

Thank you Cocopah Community for helping to pass the K-3 Override! It seems as though we are in a time and place when we have to take charge of our own resources. Included in those resources are the Tax Credit funds we so graciously accept from many of you year after year. If you have not yet given for the 2009 tax year, please consider doing so. Non-dedicated dollars go into our general fund which helps pay for things such as before and after school sponsors for clubs. You can donate on-line or feel free to contact our office and we will be happy to assist you.
As you may have heard or observed by now, the new technology equipment has been installed in most classrooms on campus. Each room has an interactive/SMART Board, a projector, a document camera, a DVD/VHS receiver, and an audio enhancement system. This was made possible by the capital override that was passed by this community two years ago. Our teachers have received overview training and will continue to learn how to implement this technology to enhance instruction and student learning.
Thank you for your participation in our Student/APT Carnival. It was a big success! Students enjoyed laser tag, dancing with bubbles, pies in the face, dunking teachers (and principals!) and more! This could not have happened without the items you donated and the volunteers who set up, worked the booths, and cleaned up.
The middle school second season of sports is off and running - girls softball and boys basketball. Thanks to Coach Oscarson and all our other coaches for organizing this for our students. This next week our band and strings programs will be performing their first concerts of the year; choir will perform on December 10. Students who made Principal's List and Honor Roll were recognized and honored on 10/30. I was thrilled to see the number of students who accomplished this! Students of Character will be recognized on Friday, 11/20. Our Student Council and Service Learning kids have been doing a terrific job organizing projects and events to help others, and our technology club kids are as busy as ever with their projects. I'm sure I have not captured everything happening on campus because it's so much!
It continues to be a busy time, but we encourage you to stay up to date with your child's grades and on their homework utilizing this website. Please don't hesitate to contact me should you have concerns, questions, or comments about what's happening at Cocopah - the best middle school there is!
Warm Regards,
Susan

My name is Susan Thomas and I am the new principal of Cocopah Middle School. I am so excited to be a Mustang! I have heard many incredible things about this community and am looking forward to meeting everyone.
I want to invite all of our incoming 6th graders and new 7th & 8th grade students (and their parents) to join me and assistant principal, Mr. Salcito, on Friday, August 7th at 2:30pm. We will gather in the cafeteria to introduce ourselves and tell you a little bit about the school. Student Council members will then be available to show you around campus. I hope all new students and families to Cocopah can attend.
It has been a challenging summer for staffing and scheduling. Thankfully the district was able to recall teachers and we were given additional staff. Mr. Salcito has been working diligently on schedules. As noted on the front page of the website, class schedules will be mailed out the week of August 3rd. We appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility regarding the late distribution of the schedules.
I have an open door policy for students, staff, and parents. If I am not available at a certain time, please feel free to make an appointment. I am very interested in hearing your suggestions and comments about how to make Cocopah an even better place to be!
Don’t forget, school starts on Monday, August 10th. Let’s make it a great year!
Warm Regards,
Susan Thomas
